Mission Outreach Committee

The Mission Outreach Committee provides a variety of mission opportunities for the church community to actively engage with others beyond our walls, to bring a message of hope and love through our gifts and presence.

In an effort to support existing projects and not duplicate efforts, we collect food each month for each of the three Belchertown food pantries. We also host periodic clothing drives and collect hats, mittens and gloves for distribution through the school department; and volunteer each month at Kate’s Kitchen in Holyoke.

The Mission Committee continues to coordinate and also participate in the prison ministry at the neighboring men’s and woman’s prisons. This ministry includes worship design and on site worship experience for the incarcerated  men and women.

In 2011 a new ministry, Hope’s Place, began. The mission of Hope’s Place is to provide a nourishing free meal and fellowship to the wider Belchertown community. In January 2012  Hope’s Place was awarded a grant from Loaves and Fishes which will allow us to expand our meal program. The monthly meal is offered from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM  on fourth Tuesday of each month.

The Mission Committee has for over 15 years provided a scholarship for a graduating Belchertown High School senior that plans to major in a human service career without regard of church affiliation

We continue to maintain a covenant relationship with  Alpha y Omega Church, in Tipitapa Nicaragua and support a United Methodist Missionary, dentist Belinda Forbes, serving in Managua Nicaragua.

The Mission Committee meets to pray and plan together and remains open to new avenues to educate ourselves and serve where needed.
