Moses – September Sermon Series

How delightful to begin my third month with you, looking at a series on that great old guy from the Old Testament – MOSES! During the month of September, we will be taking an up-close and personal look at the life of Moses, and his calling from God Almighty to lead the Hebrew people. Last Sunday, we remembered his birth, and realized what a difference God can make using just one of us – now let’s see what that led to in the years ahead for Moses.

Week 2 is the story of the Burning Bush, Week 3 the Passover, Week 4 the Crossing of the Red Sea, and Week 5 the Manna. Each week, we will also remember elements of creation as we interact with these readings from Exodus. (Fire, Death, Wind/Sky/Sea, and Food). We’ll be singing great hymns, opening each week with “All Creatures of Our God and King,” and incorporating lively spirituals like “Wade in the Water” and “Go Down, Moses”.

You might notice that the chancel area around the communion table has been prepped for this special series also! There are traditional symbols of Moses there – the basket for the baby Moses in the bullrushes, the “burning” bush, Moses’ walking stick (thanks so much to Lucy Klein’s grandson, Jaron Deich for making this for us!), a dark cloth representing the deaths at Passover, and of course, the manna raining down from the heavens, and settling all over the table.

Next to the table, though, is an easel with a changing poster each week, designed by your worship team to help us in the 21st century see how these ancient scriptures apply to our world today.

Come and share in this exciting month, as we welcome “Moses”, start our Sunday School and Confirmation classes, and celebrate God’s amazing gifts to us!

Joyfully serving with you, Pastor Joy
